Synopsys announced is AI-based design system DSO.ai has been used by Samsung for a state-of-the-art, high-performance design at an advanced process technology, the most recent of several products designed using Synopsys artificial intelligence (AI).
The AI-based product will be manufactured on Samsung’s advanced manufacturing process. Samsung used Synopsys’ autonomous AI system, Design Space Optimization AI (DSO.ai). The system driving the Synopsys Fusion Compiler™ RTL-to-GDSII solution uses reinforcement learning, that is similar to what is used in self-driving vehicles. DSO.ai pushed operating frequency over 100 MHz beyond target and considerably reduced overall power consumption, saving weeks of manual design effort. Samsung began deploying DSO.ai to multiple projects in the fall of 2020.
Using AI technology, DSO.ai autonomously searches design spaces for better solutions, scaling choices in chip design workflows, and automating many less consequential decisions.
